Toddlers Program- Martin House Preschool
Early childhood is the time for imparting music to young children. A rich musical
environment, at this age, is all it takes for a child to activate their innate ability to carry a tune and keep a beat.
Groundwork’s program for toddlers is innovative and fun. We provide classes, recordings, literature, instrument play. We bring ukuleles to every class and teach even our youngest students how to strum, pluck and identify strings.
Groundwork also offers fun supplemental activities (outside of class time), including ukulele lessons for adults, and parent child classes for the whole family.
Class Details:
12 weeks of classes
10:30-11:15am Wednesdays beginning May 17-August 16 (no class first weeks of June and July)
New Students:
As of 5/24 prorated cost is $148. Includes class fee plus one-time registration fee ($12 per class)
Returning Students
As of 5/24 prorated cost is $132 for 12 week session

Pre K Program – Martin House Preschool
In Groundwork’s pre-K program, students playfully explore a great variety of music and accompanying activities. The program includes an introduction to the ukulele, and children learn to strum, pluck and identify strings. We have written songs especially for the purpose of introducing this instrument, and all students will have an opportunity to participate in stage performances throughout the summer.

9:45- 10:30am Wednesdays beginning May 17-August 16 (no class first weeks of June and July)
New Students:

Teacher Training Workshop

Ukulele Workshop

Preschool teachers receive training hours while learning how to play the ukulele  for use in classroom activities. With it’s musical versatility, approachability, and affordability, the ukulele is a perfect introductory instrument for young children. In this 3 hour class you will learn proper handling and technique, basic notes and chords, and will leave knowing how to play a simple song for your students. The ukulele workshop is also a great team building activity, as teachers learn to make music together.

Embark on a lifetime of musical skills with the Groundwork Music Project. Join us for a unique summer program at which kids learn ukulele, singing and more! Learn to strum, pick and play a variety of melodies. The session ends with campers joining the Groundwork Music Orchestra at a special concert event.

All skill levels welcome!

Materials:
Ukulele: Students will need a ukulele (properly strung with a low G string). We can provide ukuleles for class time, but if you wish to purchase one please email neal@groundworkmusic.org. Our retailer can provide discounts for Groundwork students.

A great chance for kids eight and older to learn to strum, pick and sing along on ukulele. We draw on both original and traditional material, and all students will be encouraged to participate in public events alongside professional musicians.
In addition to monthly performances that are open to student participation, children from a dozen schools will share the stage for the end-of-semester We Create event.

Students will have opportunities to build picking, strumming and singing skills, learn songs and participate in a city-wide stage recital, accompanied by The Groundwork Music Orchestra. This recital will take place the evening of April 26 at the Carver Cultural Center and includes performances by children from multiple Austin schools. In addition, we encourage our students to participate in our monthly concerts.
We create arrangements that allow everyone to progress at their own skill level, and we incorporate songs that are really fun to play!

Program Particulars:
Wednesdays, 3:15 to 4:15pm
12 group classes, January 25-April 26

Total cost of classes: $240
Classes plus ukulele, book and CD: $308

Now that you can you play ukulele, are you ready to take your skill set to the next level?

In this class, students will learn classical pieces, like Hayden’s Surprise Symphony, plus some great pop and folks standards. We will also encourage student input to determine additional content. Learn how to play outside the scale, and learn a rich vocabulary of new chords, as we head into a new phase of musical learning.

This program is for students who have worked with us using James Hill’s Book 1, and are ready to advance. Other students with the requisite skill set are also welcome. Please inquire if you think this program would be suitable for you.

We are encouraging parents and pre-school teachers to participate in this community-focused class. Self directed young students who have already taken some lessons are also welcome. 

In addition to learning how to pluck, strum and sing along to lots of fun arrangements, adult students will learn how to become an effective partner for enriching the musical lives of young ones. 

Neal Kassanoff, is both a skilled music educator and a successful band leader across many genres. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the satisfaction of playing in an ensemble.

The 12 week program will culminate with a city wide spring concert to include all-ages participation alongside professional musicians.
